GUEST POST : A STRESS-FREE WAY TO GET PERFECT BOLD LIPSTICK

When she was talking about secrets of being pretty, Gwyneth Paltrow said: “Beauty, to me, is about being comfortable in your own skin. That, or a kick-ass red lipstick.” Yes, bold lipstick can be your secret weapon when you want to look amazing. It’s also the quickest confidence booster which can give a mysterious but - at the same time - glamorous and sophisticated look. If you want to be even more daring, a darker toned lipstick will definitely draw attention.

How to Put on a Bold Lipstick Perfectly

Preparation

Dry or chapped lips aren’t appealing, so it’s very important to moisturize them. Apply lip balm and wait 5 to 10 minutes for it to work. Then, tap them a few times with a tissue to take off any excess.
Apply concealer on your lips. It will create a neutral template for your lipstick and help it stay on longer. Also, apply it around the border of your lips to prevent the lipstick bleeding all over your face.

Put Your Lipstick on

Define your lip line with a liner that matches your natural or lipstick color. Start from the center of your lip line and trace it outwards. For a more enduring effect, use the liner as a base, by filling in the rest of your lips with it. That way, you’ll also enhance the texture.
Apply the lipstick from the corner of your mouth to its center on both lips, and then fill in the rest. For a neat and precise application, hold your lips firm while you are doing this. This will ensure that the color is deposited on every part of your lip. It is advised that the application is done directly from the tube or by a pencil rather than a lip brush, this way the color will be richer and more vibrant.
Use a liner in a matching shade with the lipstick.

The Last Check

To avoid lipstick marks on your teeth, use a tissue and place it between your lips to blot the color and allow it to set. You can also put a finger in your mouth and then softly pull it out – that way all the excess lip color will remain on your finger.
Once you've done all this, apply one more layer of lipstick so that it lasts as long as possible.

“Less Is More” Rule

If you choose a dark lipstick, the rest of your makeup should be minimalistic. Just do the basic corrections, apply a foundation and put on a blusher in a similar shade like the lipstick to harmonize the whole look. The eye makeup should be simple, with an emphasis on the lashes. Also, avoid adding a lip gloss.

Choose the Right One

Equally important as knowing how to apply lipstick is to choose the right one for you. Make sure that your product has a creamy texture, rich color and moisturizing ingredients. The shades of the season are raspberry, deep purple, cherry and plum, like the Joli Rouge Lipstick 744 soft plum from the new Clarins makeup palette of lipsticks

Pick a shade which will suit you best.  For example, deep red or burgundy colors are compatible with light eyes and brown shades will get along better with dark eyes. It’s also important that the shade complements your skin tone. When you are choosing a lipstick it is always a good idea to put it near your lips and compare it with the tone of your skin. If it makes your face seem pale the shade of the lipstick is to dark.

Thinner lips and a dark lipstick is a risky combination. The dark tone can further minimize the volume of the lips. A way to address this is by applying a brighter color over the dark one as a stain, or, as an alternative, the ombré lip can be a good solution as well. Bold makeup usually demands a bold dress, but sometimes going with a more subtle outfit can enhance the effect of the makeup.

One more advice: don’t forget to take your bold lipstick-weaponry with you. That way,, you will always be prepared for a quick correction, or some unpredictable situation.
