LICEALIZ: Kilusang Kontra Kuto Campaign

Are you one of those moms who panic whenever you’ve seen your child scratching their head because of those tiny little creatures residing on their head? Hello there! You’re not alone with that feeling.

Imagine I have a three year old daughter and me being a sassy mom who loves styling my daughter, and as much as possible, I don’t want to cut her hair because I wanted to style it every now and then. It’s always my dream to style my daughter like a doll. So when I saw her scratching her head last year, I freaked out! I tried to look at it and found some lice on her head. I confronted her babysitter and found out the reason why. It was because she herself has lice on her head. Good thing there’s already an ultimate solution for it and I don’t have to cut my daughter’s hair anymore.

Have you heard of Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo? It was actually referred by one of my friend who’s also a mom and has already undergone the same dilemma. So I tried using that shampoo on my babysitter first and used it to my daughter. I was relieved and happy that it really works. That’s why when I was invited by one of the members of Mommy Bloggers Philippines for an event that leads the Kilusang Kontra Kuto for a Kuto-free (lice-free) Philippines, I immediately said yes. I wanted to help other moms as well who’s experiencing that same dilemma I had last year.

Just to give you a brief background, about one-third of elementary public school students in the Philippines suffer from head lice-related problems. Head lice infestation or pediculosis can cause severe itchiness and infection of the scalp, but this could be the least of these children’s worries; the social stigma associated with having kuto can leave lasting psychological damage on both children and their parents.

Starting last September, Lamoiyan Corporation’s Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo have conducted Nationwide Oplan Alis Kuto as a part of its Kilusang Kontra Kuto effort to educate the public on lice infestation issues. The Licealiz caravan will travel to different schools and barangays all over the country to hold shampooing programs and lectures for students and their parents.

A survey of communities visited by the Licealiz Caravan last year found that 47% of respondents from Visayas and 76% of respondents from Mindanao said that their children were bullied and teased for having head lice, causing some of them to miss school to avoid their peers. The parents, on the other hand, feel incompetent and embarrassed for being unable to prevent head lice from infesting their children.

“We want to remove the stigma associated with having kuto by educating communities on lice infestation issues,” said Lamoiyan Corporation Marketing Director Bing Cavestany. “We want to drive home the message that everyone can be potentially infested by kuto (head lice), that it’s not something to be ashamed about, and definitely not something to ridicule others for. We also hope to encourage these communities to unite and take action to solve this public health problem together,” shared Cavestany.

Now on its second year, the Kilusang Kontra Kuto aims to raise awareness about lice infestation issues and prevent and treat head lice infestations. Last year, the campaign reached 30 communities and over 10,000 children and parents in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.

Licealiz invites everyone to join the Kilusang Kontra Kuto in changing the public’s perception about head lice infestation and spreading correct information regarding head lice prevention and treatment.

I have learned a lot from the discussions and forum we had, that’s why I want to say Thank you from ComCo Southeast Asia for inviting mommy bloggers to be part of this campaign. I wanted to help other moms by simply sharing this information on my blog and let us all be aware about head lice infestation and how to spread correct information regarding head lice prevention and treatment. I had fun watching those kids that have enjoyed the shampooing activity and how they were able to support each other to be lice-free.

I have enjoyed the free sample they’ve given us and because I wanted to help I shared those products to my friends and colleagues who are very happy and willing to try the product, especially that they have lice problems at home.

The product is really safe and it's easy to  use, a little shampooing, leave it on your hair or your child’s hair for at least 10 minutes, rinse it off and comb it. Hoala! You’re lice-free already! J

  1. One of the hindrances of getting high grades in gradeschool are the inconveniences and annoyance brought by these yucky ectoparasites! Word pa lang, nakakataas na ng balahibo! Good thing there's licealiz na! Now, children wont have to suffer being bald or short-haired just to get rid of kuto!

  3. I'm horrified at the thought of any of my kids having lice! I remember a summer my daughter spent time with relatives and came home with a head full of lice. It was horrible. The thing is her hair was so thick and we didn't realize until the day after. I had it my other son had it. Horrible! I'll keep this in mind if it should ever happen again. Hopefully not!

  6. This is a great campaign to participate in. Ang laki kaya ng comfort ng mga kids when they get rid of their hair lice. They won't be able to concentrate in their studies if they have hair lice.

  7. I don't know if products like these were around when I was a kid. It would have made my life easier. Hahaha! I remember fighting with my mom because I had lice back in 4th grade and she wanted to cut my hair. And cut it, she did. I remember crying while she was cutting my hair short. And it was the night before the start of school! LOL!

  9. I missed this event. Sayang! Yung takot ko sa kuto kasing tindi ng takot ko sa daga. Haha! I mean, I've had some as a kid, but who wants that anyway? I remember keeping my head away from other people's heads when riding public transpo. I once found a woman in the mrt with very long hair plus lots of lisa hugging the strands. I cringed, and got off the train. Buti may ganito na. It would have saved me from itch way way back.
